How the Dry Eye Specialist Group handles the personal and health information you share through this website, and your rights under New Zealand privacy law.
Last updated: 26 September 2026
This policy explains how the Dry Eye Specialist Group handles the personal information you give us through fixdryeyes.co.nz, our enquiry form, our 0800 number and our email. We follow the Privacy Act 2020 and, because what you tell us about your eyes is health information, we also apply the Health Information Privacy Code 2020. The Dry Eye Specialists app is covered by its own policy, published by the company that runs it. See The Dry Eye Specialists app below.
The Dry Eye Specialist Group is a network of independent eye care practices in New Zealand, run by optometrists and ophthalmologists. The group is not a company. Each member practice is its own business and is responsible for the care it gives you. This website and its enquiry service are run on behalf of the group. Our privacy officer is Jagrut Lallu, and you can reach him at privacy@fixdryeyes.co.nz.
We do not ask for your NHI number, date of birth or payment details on this website, and we do not collect precise location.
We do not sell your information. We do not send you marketing emails or texts unless you have agreed to receive them, and every marketing message will let you unsubscribe, as the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 requires.
When you send the enquiry form, your details are emailed to the member practice you selected. If no practice matches your selection, your enquiry goes to the group's administrator, who passes it to the most suitable practice. The practice uses your details to contact you about an appointment. From that point the practice holds your information as part of its own patient records, under its own privacy policy and New Zealand health law. We tell you this here, and next to the form, so that you know before you send it who will receive your details and why.
We do not share your information with anyone for their own marketing.
Webflow, Make.com and Google store and process information on servers outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Europe. Because they act only as our service providers, the Privacy Act treats that information as still held by us, and we remain responsible for it. We use providers whose published security and privacy commitments give protection comparable to the Privacy Act. If we ever needed to give your information to an overseas organisation for its own use, we would do so only on a ground allowed by information privacy principle 12 and rule 12 of the Health Information Privacy Code, and we would tell you first.
The website uses cookies from Google Analytics and Google Ads to measure visits and to tell whether an ad led to an enquiry. We do not use them to build a profile of you. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and control ad personalisation at Google My Ad Center. The website works without these cookies.
The website runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to enquiries is limited to the people who need them to arrange your care. We require our providers to protect the information they handle for us. No system is perfectly secure, so if something goes wrong we act on it straight away.
You have the right to ask for the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. These rights come from principles 6 and 7 of the Privacy Act 2020 and rules 6 and 7 of the Health Information Privacy Code 2020. Email privacy@fixdryeyes.co.nz. We may need to confirm who you are first. We will respond within 20 working days, and there is no charge. If we decline a correction, you can ask us to attach a statement of the correction you asked for. For the records a practice holds about your care, ask that practice directly.
You can also ask us to delete an enquiry we hold. We will delete it unless the law requires us to keep it.
If information we hold is lost, accessed or disclosed without authority, we will assess whether it has caused or is likely to cause serious harm. If it has, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected as soon as practicable, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.
If you are making an enquiry for a child, please make it as their parent or guardian. The Dry Eye Specialists app is for adults aged 18 and over.
The Dry Eye Specialists app for iPhone and Android was built with the Dry Eye Specialist Group, but it is published and operated by SynRo AB, a company registered in Sweden. SynRo AB is the agency that collects and holds the information you put into the app, and its own policies apply:
The group and its member practices do not receive your app check results, symptom answers, plan or routine records. There is no clinic dashboard. If you enter a clinic code, SynRo AB records which member practice issued the code and when you redeemed it. If you want your optometrist to see a result, show it to them on your own screen. More detail is on our app page.
We will update this page when the way we handle information changes, and the date at the top will show when it last changed. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you before it takes effect.
Please tell us first by emailing privacy@fixdryeyes.co.nz with "Privacy complaint" in the subject line. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. The service is independent and free. Visit privacy.org.nz or call 0800 803 909.
