Who runs the app, what your practice can and cannot see, and how to delete your app account and data.

Dry Eye Specialists is a self-care app for iPhone and Android, built together with the Dry Eye Specialist Group. The app's developer publishes it, runs the systems behind it and holds the information you put into it. Your agreement for the app is with the developer, not with the group or your practice.
The app helps you follow the routine you agree with your optometrist and track how your eyes feel over time, including with camera check-ins. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor any condition, and its values are estimates for your own self-care. Always talk your results over with your optometrist before you make decisions about your eyes. If your symptoms change or get worse, contact your practice.
Your practice does not receive your check results, symptom answers, plan or routine records through the app, and there is no clinic dashboard. If you enter a clinic code, the app records which member practice issued it and when you redeemed it. The code unlocks the full app at no charge while it is active. If you want your optometrist to see a result, show it to them on your screen at your visit. If this ever changes, you will be asked for your permission first.
Camera recordings are sent to the app's analysis service and deleted once your result has been worked out. No sound is recorded. You can choose to join an optional improvement programme, which keeps your recordings so that the analysis can be tested and improved. It is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off at any time in My Account, then Privacy and Data, and the recordings kept under the programme are then deleted.
In the app: open My Account, then Privacy and Data, then Delete My Data. You can delete your check-in history only, delete your personal details (which closes your account), or delete everything.
Without the app: follow the email instructions on the Delete your app account and data page. Deletion is completed within 30 days and confirmed by email.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. Deletion also does not affect the records your practice keeps about your care, or photos you saved to your own phone. Purchase records may be kept where tax law requires.
If you are not happy with how a privacy concern is handled, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz. The service is free.
